2. Important Traditions and Festivals
- Akha Swing Festival (Yae Khu A Pher): Held annually from late August to September after planting season, to thank the fertility goddess "Um Sa Yae" and celebrate the harvest.
- Khao Puk Making: Pounding black sticky rice or new sticky rice mixed with perilla seeds to offer to ancestors and share within the community.
3. Clothing and Handicrafts
- Traditional attire features black or dark blue colors with intricate hand-embroidered patterns.
- Women's headgear is decorated with silver ornaments, silver coins, and brightly colored beads.
- Prominent handicrafts include embroidery, bamboo weaving, and natural utensils.
4. Food and Agriculture
- Formerly practiced shifting cultivation, but now shifted to economic crops such as Arabica coffee, tea, and temperate vegetables.
- Local cuisine emphasizes natural ingredients and wild herbs, such as Akha chili paste (with wild coriander roots) and hill herb chicken soup.
5. Community-Based Tourism
- Many villages, such as Ban Pha Mi, Ban Pha Hee, and Ban Loryo, operate as homestays and tourist destinations, allowing visitors to learn about local ways, taste coffee, watch traditional bamboo dances, and experience folk games like Akha spinning tops.
